Mark is the Professor of Biology and Dean of the School of Science and Engineering at Colorado Christian University, and a member of the Rocky Mountain ASA Board. Mark presented on this topic as part of CCU's "Presidential Lecture Series" on September 28, 2020. We will watch the online video of this talk together from 7 – 8 pm MST and then have live discussion online with Mark from 8 – 8:30 pm MST. We'll have some casual fellowship time following the topic, about 8:30 – 9 pm MST. "The Nature of Pandemics" ~ Mark discusses the nature of communicable disease incidence, highlighting historical pandemics along with the conditions which lead to disease emergence and spread, and the tools and strategies for their control. He then summarizes the traits which give pathogens pandemic potential, followed by a brief synopsis of pathogens of concern which have the potential for causing future pandemics.
