Lecture 8: The Problem of Evil: Suffering, Death, and a 'Very Good' Creation
(Eighth in a 9-part series on Evolution and Creation)
Date: April 18, 2026
Time: 2:00-3:30pm EDT
Location: Online (registration link below)
Description
This session will confront the profound theological challenge of natural evil (e.g., predation, disease, extinction, natural disasters) existing over millions and billions of years in an old earth/evolutionary timeline. It will distinguish between moral and natural evil and explore various Christian theodicies (justifications of God's goodness in the face of evil) that are compatible with an evolutionary understanding. The discussion will include theological perspectives on animal death before the Fall and the purpose of suffering within creation.
