Solutions Journalism Training: Environment and Religion

If you are a journalist and want to learn how to tell a different type of story than the ones you hear dominating the news, or if you want to learn how to engage with journalists that report on climate solutions, this workshop is for you.

Join us on October 30th at Noon CST for a 90 min training session led by Rebecca Randall.

Rebecca Randall is an independent reporter and editor based out of the Pacific Northwest. Her work has appeared appeared in Sojourners, High Country News, Grist, YES!, and Atmos. She has previously served as the Science Editor for Christianity Today and was a 2022-2023 fellow with the Religion and Environment Story Project. She also serves as Vice President of the Science Communicators of Faith and she is a Solutions Journalism Network trainer.

What is Solutions Journalism?
Solutions journalism is rigorous and compelling reporting about responses to social problems, which includes these key elements:
-Response: Focuses on a response to a social problem and on how that response has worked, or why it hasn’t
-Insight: Shows what can be learned from a response and why it matters to a newsroom’s audience
-Evidence: Provides data or qualitative results that indicate effectiveness (or a lack thereof)
-Limitations: Places responses in context; doesn’t shy away from revealing shortcomings

This training is for you if…
-You are a journalist interested in learning new approaches to reporting
-You want to learn how to engage with journalists that report on climate solutions
-You are a scientist interested in public engagement through the media
