
Friday, November 14, 2025, at 2:00 pm ET The Science and Art of Discerning a Calling For Christians, the idea that people are called to pursue a particular area of work is familiar. Within the last 20 years, social scientists have carefully studied work as a calling, and the difference it makes when people experience their career this way. This presentation will introduce this area of research and summarize what has emerged from it, with careful attention to personal application. What can you, or your students, do to discern and live out a calling? Come prepared to learn, discuss, and apply. Bryan Dik, PhD, is a vocational psychologist and professor of psychology at Colorado State University. He has an Extraordinary Professor appointment at North-West University in South Africa. He is co-creator of the award-winning PathwayU career assessment platform. Bryan's scholarly work focuses on meaning and purpose in the workplace, calling and vocation in career development, and the intersection of faith and work. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and American Scientific Affiliation, and is recipient of the John Holland Award for Outstanding Achievement in Career or Personality Research (APA Div. 17) and the Applied Psychology of Religion and Spirituality Award (APA Div. 36). He lives with his wife Amy and their four sons in Fort Collins, Colorado. The workshop will be 1-hour with time for Q&A at the end.
