Standing Together for Faith & Science in Uncertain Times

The early months of 2025 have brought widespread disruption and uncertainty that have affected many ASA members and our communities. Among other significant impacts, numerous people in the scientific community have lost or fear they will lose their livelihood, research programs, training plans, and more. Many of our members are missions-oriented and are concerned about funding for faith-based organizations that they support. And as an organization that is, in fact, an international fellowship, there is real concern over how political changes in the U.S. might affect our cross-border relationships and our ability to be one in Christ.

We would like to let you know that the ASA Board, Team, and Prayer Committee have been praying for you, our members. The Prayer Committee meets quarterly but prays continually. If you have concerns or need a listening ear, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You are a valued member of the ASA community, and we are here to support you. We would also welcome information on how you personally have been impacted by the turmoil and changes. Please send your prayer requests to prayer@asa3.org.

In addition to prioritizing prayer, we want to offer some other resources and support in this section of our website.

Please know that the ASA Board of Directors and Leadership Team are committed to standing with our members around the world, especially our many brothers and sisters in Canada. We are one, and while we will honor and pray for our respective governments (as Scripture commands us to do), we will not allow cross-border tensions to come between us as the body of Christ.

As citizens of various nations, we can make our voices heard. We encourage you to contact your elected representatives to express your concerns. Share with them your unique stories about your research’s positive impact on public health, security, and the economy. For those in the U.S., you can find your representatives and their contact information here.

Finally, we ask you to prayerfully discern with us what God is calling the ASA’s role to be in this unprecedented time. As a global organization representing a global church, we ask ourselves this important question: What is God asking of us in this moment in history?

This is a pivotal juncture for the faith-and-science community. While the challenges we face are significant, we trust in and serve a majestic God who is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient. The ASA remains committed to its Kingdom mission as well as supporting our members and working with our partners to serve the global church of Christ.

Sincerely in Christ,

Janel and Vicki on behalf of the ASA Board of Directors

ASA Resources

  • The ASA Career Center has expanded and provides resources for jobseekers and employers.
  • Leaders of our Affiliate of Ministers, Theologians, and Philosophers are graciously offering pastoral care. This group includes Walter Rogero, Jeremy Hopper, and Craig Higgins. Please contact them at prayer@asa3.org.
  • ASA funding is available for small groups to study Francis Collins’ latest book, The Road to Wisdom, which help our members embody the task of reaching across divisions and using this book to begin to understand each other.
  • At this time, we all need to be in God’s word daily. Take some time to meditate using devotionals written by ASA members.
