Lecture 2: Echoes of Time: Evidence for an Ancient Universe and Earth

(Second in a 9-part series on Evolution and Creation)

Date: October 2, 2025

Time: 7:30-9:00pm EDT

Location: Online (registration link below)

Description

This session will explore the compelling scientific evidence that points to an incredibly old universe and Earth. It will delve into various lines of inquiry, including the expansion of the universe and cosmic microwave background radiation, which provide insights into the Big Bang and the universe's vast age. Closer to home, we will examine radiometric dating of rocks and meteorites, providing concrete timelines for the formation and evolution of our planet. Further evidence will be drawn from geological processes like stratigraphy and plate tectonics, demonstrating the immense spans of time required for the Earth's features to form. By synthesizing these diverse scientific observations, this lecture will paint a vivid picture of the deep history of our cosmos and our world.

About Stephen O. Moshier, Ph.D.

Dr. Stephen O. Moshier is Professor Emeritus of Geology at Wheaton College in Illinois. Much of his early research in geology involved describing and interpreting oil reservoir rocks, with published papers on oil fields in North America, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. More recently, Dr. Moshier's research efforts have been in the field of geo archaeology, with contributions to Bronze and Iron Age excavations in Sinai, Egypt, and Israel by combining surface geology with satellite imagery to reconstruct the ancient geographic settings of the archaeological sites. Dr. Moshier has taught in the areas of earth history, sedimentary rocks, petroleum geology, and geoarchaeology, as well as popular courses on natural disasters, energy and climate change, and theories of origins. He has served as past president of the Geological Society of Kentucky and the Affiliation of Christian Geologists and currently serves on the Executive Council of the American Scientific Affiliation. He is a member of several professional geological societies.
