Join the Science Communicators of Faith for a career panel discussion on May 16th at 2PM CST featuring Anna Funk (Science Communicator and Ecologist), Christine Herman Freelance Journalist and Chemist), Christine DiPasquale (Journalist, Artist, former Executive Director at Religion News Association), and Jenny Crayne (STEM Education Communicator, Current Manager of Program at Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC)).

Panelist Bios below:


Jenny Crayne is a science communicator and educator from the informal science and museum world. She spent 10 years working for the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), where she developed and led education programs for learners of all ages and facilitated OMSI’s Science Communication Fellowship, training STEM professionals in public engagement. She recently moved to the Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC), a member organization of science museums dedicated to increasing the understanding of and engagement with science and technology among all people. 


Anna Funk is an ecologist-turned-communications professional and the founder of Ampliflora, a consulting studio specializing in conservation and environmental education. She earned her Ph.D. studying prairie restoration ecology, served as an editor at Discover magazine, and still writes as a freelance science writer. Today, she helps mission-driven organizations engage their audiences, communicate science clearly, and increase their impact through strategic messaging and outreach. A life-long Midwesterner, she now lives in Kansas City, where she’s slowly turning her yard into a tiny prairie oasis.


Christine Di Pasquale is a storyteller and award-winning writer. For nearly 20 years, she has told multimedia stories as a freelance journalist and essayist. She has previously served as the Executive Director of the Religion News Association (RNA), and prior to that she served as communications director for the Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Religion program (DoSER) at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and media studies from Rutgers University School of Communication and Information, and a master of fine arts degree in visual narrative from New York’s School of Visual Arts.


Christine Herman is an independent audio editor and health journalist. Currently, her primary role is editor of the Student Newsroom at Illinois Public Media, the NPR station serving east-central Illinois. She got her start in public radio at IPM in 2015 as a founding producer for The 21st show and went on to become a reporter for IPM News, and later, the managing editor of Side Effects Public Media based at WFYI in Indianapolis, before going freelance in 2023. Herman serves on the board of the Association of Health Care Journalists, received the 2023 Media Award from Mental Health America and is a 2018-19 Rosalynn Carter Mental Health Journalism Fellow. She got her Ph.D. in chemistry and M.S. in journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
