Call for Abstracts

Greetings from the ASA 2026 Program Chairs Robert Thoelen, Craig Story, and Angie Cornwell

We are looking forward to your participation in ASA 2026, our annual meeting on July 24–27, 2026, at Gordon College in Wenham, MA! We will continue to update meeting information as it becomes available.

The theme of this year's annual meeting is "Science-Faith Synergy: Glorifying God and Serving the World." Participants will be challenged to think about how they are uniquely positioned to serve as Christ’s hands and feet in their disciplines and reflect his light in a broken world.

We invite meeting registrants to contribute oral or poster presentations within their disciplines at the intersection of science and faith. We will also have a student poster contest. You may propose an abstract as follows:

  • A 20-minute oral presentation (plus 5-minute Q&A) on an important topic in the science-faith dialogue.
  • A brief, focused talk, which will be in a special lightning talk session, with more extended discussion by panel or moderated Q&A on the theme of the talks.
  • A conference-style poster integrating faith & science for viewing and for presentation. The poster should include scientific data and analysis as well as discussion about its theological significance or 1-3 questions on how you might develop theological insights on the topic.
  • Reviewers' Choice.

Details:

The annual meeting’s planning committee will evaluate and review submitted abstracts for both technical and theological content as well as overall quality and applicability. Since accepted presentations must show an adequate understanding of both science and faith, we encourage you to collaborate with other science professionals and/or theologians in preparing your presentations.

Please remember not to speak outside your field of expertise, double-check your facts, consider multiple possible scientific and/or theological interpretations, and be appropriately tentative and humble in your conclusions.

As is our custom, we will have designated tracks for students and early-career scientists, Christian women in science, and chapters/affiliates.

Abstract Submission Deadline: January 31, 2026.

Abstract Requirements

  1. Abstracts must be 50–250 words.
  2. Indicate your format preference:

    • Reviewers’ choice of format
  3. Please identify at least one primary discipline category, or up to three disciplines maximum, if your work is interdisciplinary.
  4. In one to two sentences, emphasize how your work within that discipline uniquely positions you to glorify God and serve his kingdom. Provide sufficient detail to be informative but use language that will be understood by a non-specialist or a scientist from outside your field.
  5. Append one to three recent or particularly significant bibliographic references pertinent to your topic.
  6. You may submit only one (1) abstract for which you are the primary author. You may submit additional abstracts listing yourself as a secondary co-author.
  7. You must submit your abstract(s) online using the Call for Abstracts form and use the following format:
    • Begin your abstract with (a) type of submission—oral, poster, or reviewers’ choice, (b) the topical area(s), (c) the title of your presentation, and (d) the name(s) of the author(s).
      • For example, This oral presentation submission in the Biochemistry category titled [insert title] is submitted for consideration by Primary Author: [Author Name] and Secondary Author(s): [Author Name(s)].

    • Upload your abstract(s) as a Word (.docx) or Rich Text Format (.rtf) file.
  8. We plan to notify you of abstract acceptance or non-acceptance by March 15, 2026.

  1. The application of science (broadly construed) in serving the goal of the flourishing of humans and nature.
  2. The increase in knowledge and human creativity in addressing critical issues facing humans and/or the natural world.

  4. Topics that extend our understanding of how theology shapes our understanding of the scientific enterprise and how new insights from science challenge our theological understanding of ourselves and the world.

Depending on the makeup of the accepted submissions, sessions are typically organized under the following larger categories as tracks in the program: Life and Health Sciences; Physical and Environmental Sciences; Technology, Computer Science, and Engineering; Theology and Humanities; Faith and STEM Education; Behavioral Sciences.
