TRAVEL & TOURISM
Travel Information for our 2023 Annual Meeting
General Location Information
UTM's award-winning facilities are situated on 225 acres of protected greenbelt along the Credit River.
The UTM website includes a virtual campus tour with 360˚ views, audio guides, and many photos.
Local Weather
Summertime temperatures in Mississauga typically typically range from 73 to 88 °F (23 to 31 °C) (see the 10-Day Forecast here) with moderate to high humidity (see Hourly Forecast). (See also the forecast at The Weather Network, 7 Day and Hourly.)
Current Conditions
MISSISSAUGA WEATHERTraveling to Mississauga
Note!
USA citizens will need their passports to enter Canada whether driving or flying.
If you live within a feasible distance, please consider the benefits of ground travel. Details are below.
Train
Amtrak's system of routes brings travelers to the Oakville, ON (OKL) station, which is about a fifteen minute drive from UTM.
Amtrak also offers a number of discounts for seniors, students, kids, military groups, and more.
Bus
Bus rates are often cheaper if purchased in advance. WanderU might be a good option for searching bus ticket rates, and search results compare bus and train tickets.
Driving
UTM campus is an eight-hour drive from Chicago, Boston, and Washington DC. It takes about twelve hours coming Charlotte or Nashville. However, keep in mind to add time for border crossings and that not every border crossing is open twenty-four hours.
If you're thinking about driving to the conference, please see our Ride-Sharing options as soon as possible.
More generally, Google Maps is useful for planning a route, and GasBuddy has a helpful Trip Cost Calculator for both estimating the cost of fuel and locating the least expensive fill-up locations en route.
Flying
The best prices for air travel can often be determined using services such as Google Flights or Skyscanner.
Getting from the Airport to UTM
- First, please take note of ASA's ride-sharing forums, which can be especially helpful for coordinating a shared ride from the airport.
- By car, UTM is 25 minutes from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and 35 minutes from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ).
- The website for Toronto Pearson (YYZ) has links for Transportation (shuttles, rentals, taxis, public transit) and more. iFly also has links for Ground Transport.
Getting from UTM to your airport:
At the conference, there will be a way to exchange information with other attendees about sharing rides back to the airport(s).
ASA Ride-Sharing Forums
There are two ASA travel forums. One is for drivers and riders generally, and the other is for sharing a ride from the airport. In order to use one of them, please click the corresponding below, and you can read posts. In order to write a post, read the forum's first post (about “how to post”), sign in (as a member of ASA, or register for free) and reply.
Road-Trips to & from ASA 2023
Please visit this Road Trip Forum if you are:
- planning to make a road trip to Mississauga (instead of flying) and you want to offer a ride to share costs, or
- if you're looking for a road-trip ride.
Riding to & from the Airport
The Airport Forum is useful if:
- you want to share a taxi ride to UTM, or
- you are driving (your own car or a rental) and you can offer a ride to UTM.
Daily, Off-Campus Carpooling
The Off-Campus Carpooling Forum is useful for those commuting to UTM and back each day:
- those staying in off-campus hotels, and
- those who live locally.
Note: posting in the these forums ASAP is the best way to help others make their plans efficiently. For instance, if another attendee frequently checks the forum and discovers they can ride with you, they may do this instead of buying a ticket for a plane or train or bus. But if you post too late, this opportunity for savings, conversation, and making a new friend may be missed!
