Thank you for registering for ASA 2023. We look forward to your active participation and a delightful time of in-person fellowship. With great excitement, we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the CSCA! We hope you find the following information helpful.

If you are driving, please leave your luggage in your car until after you check-in at registration and receive your housing assignment and keys. Lost lodging keys are $25 USD.
After-Hours Arrival Instructions
If you arrive after 10 pm, please come to Oscar Peterson Hall (OPH) to pick up your keys and room assignment. When you arrive, please call or text Dana. Her cell number can be found in an email you received on July 20th with the subject line, "ASA 2023 - Welcome Letter." Advanced notice of your late arrival would be helpful, if possible.
Parking
Parking on campus is limited to lots P4, P8 and P9. If you purchased a parking pass when you registered online, you will receive it at the registration desk upon check-in. If you did not purchase a parking pass, you can use any of the pay-to-park machines located in lots P4, P8 or P9. Please display your parking pass on your dashboard.
Name Badges
You will receive a name badge and program materials when you register. Please note that this badge is your pass into the various lectures and other activities at the conference. Kindly wear your name badge to all events throughout the conference.
Meals
Breakfast and dinner (except the BBQ) will be served in Coleman Commons in Oscar Peterson Hall (OPH). These will be catered, buffet meals as the campus dining hall is not open during the summer.
Bagged lunches will be served in the Communications, Culture and Technology (CC) Atrium. If you purchased a commuter meal package or the lodging/meals package, you will receive a meal card that must be returned at checkout. Lost meal cards are $20 USD.
Meal meet-ups will take place during most meals and designated tables will be marked accordingly. Check out the schedule to find a meal meet-up that you may want to attend!
Fellows’ Dinner
If you purchased a ticket to for the Fellows’ dinner, please meet in front of OPH at 5:30 pm on Thursday, July 27 to coordinate transportation. Dress is business casual.
Field Trips
Field trips are on Friday, July 28 and will leave from the driveway in front of OPH. Please arrive 15 minutes before departure. A list of trip leaders and their cell numbers can be found in an email you received on July 20th with the subject line, "ASA 2023 - Welcome Letter."

CSCA 50th Anniversary BBQ
For those who purchased a commuter meal plan, lodging/meals package or a BBQ ticket, Saturday evening dinner will celebrate the CSCA’s 50th Anniversary. We’ll hear from the anniversary committee and enjoy a menu that features both regional and indigenous items. The BBQ is 5 – 6:30 pm in the CC Courtyard.

General Information
- ATM machine is in the Student Centre.
- If traveling from outside of Canada, remember to check that you have the appropriate travel documents to enter Canada (passport, visa, etc.).
- If traveling from outside of Canada, remember to check your cell phone plan to determine if any additional coverage is needed during your trip.
- WiFi is available throughout the campus and instructions will be available both in the program and at the registration desk.
- Bring a sweater or jacket for air-conditioned meeting rooms.
- Bring a water bottle as bottled water is not available on the UTM campus. There will be water machines around campus and pitchers of water during breaks/meals.
- Single-gender housing will be four-bedroom townhouses. Kitchen and common room are on the first floor, four bedrooms (each with a twin bed) and one bathroom on the second floor. These buildings have no AC or elevators. Kitchens are not furnished with any dishes, cookware, towels, soap etc.
- Married couple housing will be single-level (1st or 2nd floor) townhouses with no AC or elevators. Each unit includes two bedrooms (each with a twin bed), a bathroom, a kitchen with fridge, stove, and microwave as well as a sitting area. Kitchens are not furnished with any dishes, cookware, towels, soap etc.
- Linen packets will be found in your room and will contain one pillow, one pillowcase, two bed sheets, a blanket and one bath towel. If you need additional linens, you will need to bring them with you.
- You will need to bring your own toiletries. If you wish to hang your clothes, pack some hangers as well.
- If you move any furniture, please be sure to move it back to the original location.
- Please be mindful of cell phone etiquette while attending the conference. Please silence your phones when in sessions and step outside before taking/making any calls.
- For any concerns with the residence halls on weekdays, please contact the residence front desk at 905-828-5286 (9 am – 6 pm) or Don on Duty at 416-268-0241 (6 pm – 9 pm). - Campus quiet hours are daily from 11:00 pm to 9:00 am.
- If needed, dumpsters are located behind Oscar Peterson Hall.
- Checkout is by 2 pm on Monday, July 31. Please be sure to return your lodging keys and meal cards to the registration table before you leave as there will be a charge to you for any lost cards. Linens should be left in the bedrooms and you do not need to strip the beds.

Is there a dress code for ASA annual meetings?
- Regular sessions: most attendees wear business-casual attire.
- It's a good idea to dress up a little if you're presenting a talk or poster session.
- It's best to bring along active wear for field trips and sporting events.
- It's wise to bring a sweater or jacket for the cool early morning, evenings, and for the air conditioned meeting rooms.
Do USA citizens need a passport to enter Canada?
Yes. You will need your passport whether flying or driving.
What are the visa requirements for travelling to Canada?
If you are coming from a country which requires a visa (see this page), you must:
- register and pay for the conference
- send us an email requesting a letter of invitation. This must include a link to an institutional website (church, university, company) which we can use to confirm your position
You can then use this letter as part of your application for a visa from the Canadian embassy or consulate in your country.
