Dinner for Christians of Color in AI

Special Guest

Joanna Ng, ASA Keynote Speaker

When

Thursday July 27, Evening

Description

People of color have been at the forefront of leadership on AI and society, despite being historically excluded from the fields across industry, civil society, policy, and academia where our leadership has manifested. Yet for many of us, the faith that animates our work, inspires our joy—and grounds us in our history and culture—is absent from both our secular and religious circles. This dinner gathering of Christians of Color in AI will celebrate and nurture a community, and share ideas for continued conversation.

When & Where

3 - 6 pm (3 hours; includes Friday dinner meet-up)

Description

During this three-hour workshop, we will explore the ways in which science and Christian faith can interact. We will pay special attention to the perspectives of believing scientists and scholars of science regarding how science and faith can contribute to each other. After providing an overview of the science-faith landscape, we will discuss the defining statements and culture of the ASA, which will help attendees maximize their experience of the meeting. Although everyone is welcome, this workshop is designed specifically for those who are relatively new to the ASA, particularly those attending their first national meeting.
