 Dear Friend,
One of the most fundamental issues between science and faith is that of reductionist materialism vs theistic creation, leading to a universal search for meaning. In this NewsNote, you will find an invitation to engage in a discussion around a recent series on PBS, SEARCHING, Our Quest for Meaning in the Age of Science. The information on where to find the series and the discussion group is included in this issue. We want to remind you that the ASA wants to hear about the accomplishments of our members. Whether you have a new book, receive an award, or are featured in an interview, podcast or article, please let us know at asa@asa3.org. We want to share the good news with other members who also rejoice in your success! Joyfully in Christ,  The ASA Team: Janel, Vicki, Lyn, Becky, Dana, Hannah, Michele and Mark

  | |   | SEARCHING: Our Quest for Meaning in the Age of Science - Discussion Blog Last month, Alan Lightman of MIT launched a 3-part TV series entitled, SEARCHING: Our Quest for Meaning in the Age of Science. He raises excellent questions that go to the heart of what the ASA is all about. However, he posits an unequivocal reductionist answer without a clear rationale and without even a hint of considering the Christian perspective. As ASA members, we believe we have much more to say on this topic. For this purpose, we have set up a special blog for ASA members to discuss the questions raised in Lightman's series. We invite you first to watch the series. All three episodes can be accessed free at this link. The series will also be broadcast on local PBS TV stations and that link will help guide you to your local TV station schedule. In addition, the series is available to PBS passport members. Then share your thoughts on this discussion blog. A topic is provided for each episode. Only ASA members can post comments while the public is able to view all posts. |

      | |   | Member Corner ASA Fellow Gareth Jones has recently published, At the Margins: A Life in Biomedical Science, Faith, and Ethical Dilemmas. Gareth writes: "It covers some of the topics I have written about over the years, plus some very recent ones. It has a biographical tinge, since I want to state where I am coming from, and how I as a Christian deal with issues at the borders of science and faith. I also touch on policy issues and how I seek to function in a pluralist society." This book is available through the publisher, Wipf and Stock Publishers here. |

United as Neighbors is working in various ways (see the website) to help get past the polarization. Paul is involved in the leadership of the Community Conversations program which aims at helping citizens practice civil, productive conversions on controversial topics. |
