Dear Friend,

The ASA Team is fast at work and getting ready to warmly welcome you to ASA 2022 right around the corner on July 29  August 1. We sincerely hope you will invite a friend and join us in beautiful San Diego. After a challenging two years, it will be a welcome homecoming for the ASA community. 

Our travel schedule is gradually returning to normal, and it has been a joy to re-engage with more of our members in person. We plan to be in southern California next week. Please note our meeting schedule below, and if you are in the area, we welcome you to join us at a gathering.

ASA 2022 – WHAT IS A HUMAN? Flourishing as a Person

We hope you will plan to join us for ASA 2022, at Point Loma Nazarene University in sunny San Diego, CA! The meeting will start on Friday, July 29 and run through noon on Monday, August 1. Watch for registration to open around May 1.

The Brown Bag Lunch is back!

Our next Brown Bag Lunch is scheduled for Thursday, March 24 at 1:00 pm ET/10:00 am PT. Please join us for a video presentation and live Q&A on "The Health Benefits of Forgiveness: Integrating Medicine and Faith for Human Flourishing" by ASA Fellow Mark Strand. This talk was originally presented at the ASA 2021 virtual meeting.

Members in Action

ASA Member Denis Alexander was awarded the Trotter Prize in Information, Complexity, and Inference by Texas A&M University in 2020, but his prize lecture was delayed for pandemic reasons. He will now be giving his lecture by Zoom at Texas A&M on Wednesday, April 6, 2022.

The Trotter Prize is awarded annually for pioneering contributions to the understanding of the role of information, complexity, and inference in illuminating the mechanisms and wonder of nature. Denis's lecture is entitled, "Are We Slaves to Our Genes?," as is the title of his 2020 Cambridge University Press book available from the Faraday online shop at a reduced price.


 

 

Member Highlight

ASA student member, Christian Women in Science (CWiS) Coordinator and graduate student Loryn Phillips was recently interviewed by BioLogos about being a Christian woman in science. Check out the interview here!

Loryn and the CWiS Leadership team look for ways to partner with other organizations to fulfill the CWiS mission. One example is the upcoming event with Emerging Scholars Network  (ESN) and Women in the Academy & Professions (WAP) on Friday, April 22. You can find out more information about that event here.

Diving Deeper Discussions

The next Diving Deeper Discussion is scheduled for Saturday, April 9 at 2 pm ET. Patrick Franklin will join us to discuss his article "Theodicy and the Historical Adam: Questioning a Central Assumption  Motivating Historicist Readings" published in the March 2022 issue of PSCF.
