Important Information for ASA 2018 Annual Meeting Attendees

Thank you for registering for the 2018 ASA Annual Meeting at Gordon College. It is with great anticipation that we look forward to your arrival at the meeting. Our hope is that you will be extremely blessed and enjoy the meeting and all that it offers to you.

Please read carefully the following information:


The ASA registration table will be open from Thursday through Sunday. It will be located in the Loggia in the Ken Olsen Science Center (KOSC).

Thursday: 1:00 PM-10:00 PM
Friday: 8:00 PM-10:00 PM
Saturday: 8:15 AM-4:45 PM
Sunday: 10:30 AM-5:00 PM
Monday: 8:15 AM-11:15 AM

You will receive your name badge, meal tickets, program, and conference materials at registration check-in.

Please note that this badge is your pass into the various lectures and other activities of the conference. ASA staff will be available throughout the conference to answer questions and assist attendees as needed.

Shuttle Transportation

If you need transportation assistance to campus, we have shuttles available to pick you up at either Logan Express-Peabody or Beverly Depot train station. You must reserve a time slot ahead of time by emailing Kristen. The cost is $5 each way. For more information about travel options to Gordon College, click here.

Campus Lodging

Lodging check-in and check-out is at the registration table in the Loggia in KOSC. ASA Welcome Team, Lyn and Kristen, will issue you your room key there. Lodging will be in Chase and Tavilla Halls.

If you are arriving earlier or later than registration table hours, you should contact Gordon College Public Safety, 978-867-4444 to assist you with check-in.

To help us provide sufficient staffing for lodging check-in, please click here to complete a very brief survey on arrival and departure times.

Field Trips

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to scheduled departure. Thursday, Friday and Monday field trips will leave from the Chapel Parking Lot. Please bring a full personal water bottle (provided at check-in) and wear comfortable walking shoes.

Thursday, July 26: Red Sox game will depart at 5:00 PM

** There are a few Red Sox tickets available. Come join us at Fenway!**

Friday, July 27: MIT Lab trip will depart at 8:45 AM
Friday, July 27: Halibut Point/Rockport Geology Tour departs at 9:00 AM
Friday, July 27: Cape Ann Whale Watch departs at 12:45 PM
Monday, July 30: Harvard Museum Trip departs at 12:30 PM

There is still some availability in several of this year's field trips. If you wish to add any of the following, simply log in and modify your registration or contact Kristen and she can add them for you.

Friday Workshops

9:00 AM: Science for Service: Diagnostics for the Developing World

2:00 PM: Reworking the Science of Adam
Facilitated by Joshua Swamidass in KOSC 107

There is still space in both workshops. Contact Kristen and she can add them for you.


The ASA Bookstore will be located in the Loggia in KOSC. Be sure to browse the selection of titles by plenary speakers and other attendees. Books related to the conference theme as well as general topics on science and faith will also be available. Cash, checks, and credit card payments accepted.

Campus parking is in undesignated spots in any lot. The Chapel parking lot is the closest for guests staying in Chase Hall. There is a separate lot in front of Tavilla for guests staying there. There is also a small lot alongside KOSC and a larger lots behind Jenks Library for those commuting. Please refer to campus map for more details.

Construction on Campus

The dining hall service area located in Lane Student Center is being renovated. We will have our food served to us in Chester's Place. When you enter Lane Student Center, please follow signs for meals. 

On-Campus Lodging Information

The rooms are air conditioned and each guest will have a bed, dress, and desk with chair. The linens that are provided in your room include 1 pillow, 1 pillowcase, two twin flat sheets; 1 blanket, 1 hand towel, 1 bath towel and shower soap. If you need more linens than this, please bring them. You will need to bring your own wash cloth, shampoo, toothpaste, and other toiletries, alarm clock, hangers, reading lights, etc. Hot plate and appliances are not permitted.

Check Out Procedures

To check out of your on-campus lodging, please return your room keys to the registration table in KOSC. All guests MUST be checked out of their rooms by 10:00 AM on Monday, July 30. Luggage can be held for the day in a classroom in KOSC when you return your room key.

Special Activities

Morning walks: Sign up for guided morning walks at the ASA registration table. Walks will begin at 6:00 AM Saturday and Monday; 6:30 AM on Sunday.

Meal meet ups: Various groups will have meals together. Check the program guide for details and plan to share a meal with like-minded colleagues.

Volleyball & Softball: Sign up at the ASA registration table to play if you haven't already! All are welcome. If you plan to play softball, please bring a glove if you are able.

General Information

Dress Code

Casual summer dress is appropriate.


Connect to Wi-Fi Network with "GordonGUEST". It authorizes 12 hours of use and can be renewed as needed. Instructions will be available at the registration table.

Bennett Center

Gordon College Bennett Center has a swimming pool and fitness center that can be used for a daily rate. Click here to see hours. Gull Pond is also on campus. Please bring a swimsuit if you plan to swim.

Dining and Snacks

Meal tickets must be used for all meals. You will receive all your tickets in your registration packet. 

There will be a morning and afternoon refreshment break on Saturday and Sunday.

There is also a Cafe that accepts personal payment and is open on Friday and Monday in Jenks Library.
