3.ASA Receives STEAM Grant Award
It is with great excitement that weshare the news that ASA has been awarded a $25,000 STEAM grant. The Science and Theology for Emerging Adult Ministries (STEAM) project is a program at Fuller Theological Seminary for catalyzing the integration of Christian faith and science for emerging adults in college and post-college ministries.
ASA's STEAM project is called "ASA Local Chapters Campaign: Influencing the Influencers." Our project will create resources and educational materials for Christians in the science and faith communities to intentionally engage emerging adults around the integration of Christian faith and science. ASA desires to influence the influencers, and therefore provide a broader threshold over which students and young professionals may enter this important area. The project will include three main emphases:
1. Strengthen and revitalize ASA local chapter activity
2. Increase engagement of educators and faith community leaders
3. Equip ASA members and faith leaders to engage with students through educational events, forums, and mentoring programs
ASA executive leadership (Leslie and Vicki) will visit eight (8) strategic locations across the US and Canada to support active local chapters and discuss revitalizing/establishing new local chapters with key ASA members. In the coming days, we'll be in touch with ways that you can assist and partner with us in this exciting endeavor.
4.Student Scholarship Fund
We are pleased that we had a record number of students—55!—in attendance at the recent conference at APU. The ASA student scholarship fund enables student and early career scientists to attend the annual meeting at a significantly discounted rate. Scholarships are made possible through the generosity of our members making charitable contributions for this purpose. See the chart below for an accounting of the fund to date. Our desire is to replenish the fund so that we can repeat these scholarships again next year. If you feel led to participate, please click on this link to make your donation today.
