Prof. Daniel Boyarin, Berkeley, To Speak at Congregation Ruach Israel
October 22nd 7:30pm
How Jewish was Jesus? Most scholars would say, “completely.” But, what about the New Testament’s oft-repeated claim that this 1st century rabbi was more than a mere human, but rather the unique expression of God’s very presence on earth?
Many would say this idea came later and reflected the pagan influences in the ancient world. But, not Daniel Boyarin, an Orthodox Jew and Professor of Talmudic Culture at UC Berkeley in his controversial new book, The Jewish Gospels – the Story of the Jewish Christ where he discusses how 1st century Jewish ideas are the foundation of this claim of a divine messiah.
Dr. Boyarin will be speaking on this fascinating subject at Needham’s Messianic Jewish synagogue, Congregation Ruach Israel on Wednesday October 22 at 7:30 PM.
The cost is $10 and is free with a student ID.
