Methodological Naturalism and the Threat of Science?

Abstract:

Some Christians perceive the sciences as threatening because of a perception that scientific explanations are naturalistic and displace God or perhaps render God completely superfluous to understanding the natural history of our world. I will argue that there are good theological reasons for adopting forms of methodological naturalism in scientific investigation. These reasons played a role in the formation of modern science. Moreover, these reasons reduce considerably any threat contemporary theorizing about cosmology or evolution present to Christianity.

This is a great opportunity to take advantage of a number of ASA members being in the Boston area during the last week of June. Robert organized the symposium on MN in our 2011 annual meeting and those papers were published in the March and June 2013 issues of our journal. In this meeting, Robert will share some perspectives on MN and lead a discussion. Bring all your questions and comments on this topic!

Invite all your colleagues and come participate in a stimulating discussion.
